As many of you know, Ethan was diagnosed with Perthes Disease last year while we were living in Rochester, MN while Adam did his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Perthes Disease results in a lack of blood flow to the ball portion of the hip joint resulting in leg pain and limping. Last year he was told that he could not run or play sports. However, he could swim and cycle. We had access to an indoor pool, so that was a huge blessing! After four months, he had another x-ray which showed that his condition had not gotten worse. Thus, he was free to do anything sports related with the exception of jumping on a trampoline.
I have posted recently about how much Ethan has been LOVING basketball!!! He was REALLY looking forward to his practice tomorrow and game on Saturday. Well, yesterday he was complaining of leg pain that kept getting worse. I gave him Tylenol, thinking it was growing pains, but his pain didn't go away. By this morning, he could only walk with intense pain and he exhibited a significant limp. Praise God that Adam was home from work today because he was able to get him in for an x-ray and ultrasound of his hip early this afternoon. The results showed that his Perthes has gotten worse. We are going to meet with an Orthopedic doctor tomorrow, but for now, this means no basketball! He has had such a GREAT attitude about it! He is able to swim, ride his bike and golf. Please keep him in your prayers. We don't know why this is happening, but we trust in God's plan.
In our devotion, Jesus Calling for Kids, we read these words this morning:
"When everything is going wrong, trust Me with all your heart. When everything seems dark and confusing-that is when My Light shines brightest!" Sarah Young
