Kohkohmah Living History Encampment Field Trip

Kokomah is a reenactment of the French and Indian War that takes place each year in Kokomo, Indiana. My grandparents live in Kokomo, and they have told us so many great things about the reenactment. We were so excited to study about the war this month and then take the kids to Kohkohmah last weekend! We were thrilled that my Mom and grandparents were able to join us!

In the picture above we were waiting to watch the battle of Fort Duquesne. This was when the British commander, General Braddock, lost his life after choosing to order a march through this heavily fortified area. In the picture below the British soldiers (redcoats) were in a state of confusion. You can see several dead in the background. Soon after this picture was taken, we started to see the French and Indians come out of hiding. This battle was a great French victory. However, the British captured it once and for all in 1758 and renamed it Fort Pitt.

Random pic of me with one of the Indians. It amazed me how everything was so authentic. It was an awesome experience!

Below is a picture of the kids with a fur trader.

Faith had fun making a trade necklace!
Daddy and Ella petting a Shetland sheep. We had family members spinning their wool there that day!

Candle dipping!
Authentic food!

Warming up with coffee and hot chocolate
Ethan was my British soldier that day! :) He is all boy, and I love it!

We spent the rest of the day at my grandparent's farm! I will post pics of that next time!

Also, we enjoyed the following book about the French and Indian Wars.

Struggle for a Continent: The French and Indian Wars: 1689-1763 (The American Story)
